Treating Your Cats Tapeworms at Home

Tapeworms in cats is a very common problem. Tapeworms can cause health problems in your cat, so it is important to take care of them. You probaly have several questions about tapeworms so we will talk about what a tapeworm is, how it affects your cat's health and some ways to remove them at home.

What is a tapeworm? A tapeworm is a segmented worm that gets it's nutrients through its skin because it does not have a mouth. They can be as small as 4 inches and as adults can be upto 181 inches. The best way to tell if your cat has tapeworms is to look at the feces. The end of the tapeworm usually breaks off and will come out with the feces. If you see little white specs it is a good sign your cat has tapeworms. How do cats get tapeworms? Tapeworms come from fleas along with your cats help. The tapeworm larvae gets into the flea and then the cat eats the flea. The tapeworm needs 2 hosts in order to survive. Once in the cat it can grow from the cat's nutrients. How do Tapeworms affect my cats health? Because the fleas take the cat's nutrients your cat is not getting what it needs to be healthy. Your cat can become weaker and lose weight. Tapeworms can also make your cat itchy and uncomfortable.

How to Treat Tapeworm Infestation:

1. Pumpkin Seeds - They are highly antiparasitic and are high in vitamins and minerals. Crush a teaspoon of pumpkin seeds and add it to the cat food for about 3 weeks.
2. Tumeric - Use 1/8 teaspoon for every 10lbs your cat weighs. Add to food for ten days.
3. Papaya - Finely chop 1/2 a teaspoon of Papaya and add to your cats food once a day for two weeks.
4. Parsley water - Boil a bunch of Parsley. Once it boils drain the water into a bowl and allow it to cool. Once it cools down add 1/2 a teaspoon of the Parsley water into your cats water bowl for 10 days.

One last tip - To help prevent your cat from getting tapeworms it is always good practice to try and prevent fleas from being on your cat. Take time to deflea your cat and help get rid of fleas and prevent tapeworms.
