What To Do Now That You Started Your Own Business

What to Do Now That You Have Started Your Business?

You have been through all the financial and business hurdles and can now open your first Pet Grooming Business. Whether you have been working for other groomers or you are just done with grooming school, you want to start off on the right foot. What is the next step and what are some important things you need to remember?  Here are a few tips to get you started on that right foot:

Stay in Your Budget: Keep in mind that you must stay within your budget. If you need to keep a posted budget pinned up in your office. Your budget should be able to keep you on track not only for a few months, but you need to be able to track out at minimum a year. You do not want to have the stress of worrying about if you are going to be able to pay your bills daily. This is one of the most important things you need to have before you even groom your first pet. Keep your perspective.

Comfort Level: Just as with any job you need to be comfortable with any animal. You must be prepared for all breeds of dogs and cats. If you have any hesitation, they will know it and be uncomfortable with you. This will not have a positive vibe for you or the pet during the grooming experience. One suggestion is if you are uncomfortable around a certain type of breed is to learn about them and reach out to someone with that specific breed. Make time to go meet them and learn about the animal and its habits. This will help ease the tension you have and in turn make a more satisfying grooming experience.

Staying Human: You not only need to have a bond with the pet you are grooming, you also need to have a bond or relationship if you will, with the human client. You need to make them feel a part of the experience. Small talk is a very easy way to do this. It shows that you are not just a groomer concerned about grooming the pet and getting paid, but you also care about your clients and who they are. In doing this you also need to make sure that the client is aware of some boundaries. They need to know that there are business and nonbusiness hours. Make sure that they have a way of contacting you during business hours and will not always receive a voicemail. If a customer feels like they matter, then they will feel that their pet is in great hands.

Time and Routine: In the pet grooming business you need to accept that you will be working at least forty hours a week. It is important to create a routine that works for you that includes grooming and nongrooming tasks. Once you get into your routine you will find that the tasks are not as daunting as you first thought they would be. Your service is the most important factor in your business. If you do not have clients to service, you will not have a business.

Business Allies: You need to network with other pet groomers in your area. It may sound confusing to be friends with the competition, however you want to have a good reputation and maybe they will teach you some techniques you do not know or even improve on what you are already doing. It is more important to be known as a friendly groomer than one who is unfriendly.

Social Media: This topic is a no brainer. You need to make sure you get your business on social media where everyone is! Whether it is Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or any other type of social media you want to make sure to advertise your services and tell people who you are and why you are the pet groomer to go to.

Appointment Software: One thing that will help you and take time off your hand is to have appointment software. This will help you get appointments in, allow clients to book appointments online, send them reminders for their appointments and allow you to keep track of all of your clients previous appointments by creating a profile for them.
